The Hatima Khanya Drive: Empowering Young Girls for a Better Now, and a Better Future

Mandela Day on July 18th, 2023 saw the launch of an incredible project called the Dignity Drive. Due to its resounding success, we made it a permanent initiative, and renamed it as the Hatima Khanya Drive – which means ‘shine’.

This project focusses on an issue often overlooked, but of immense importance: providing sanitary care to young girls from underprivileged communities in South Africa. An estimated one- third of these girls miss school during their menstrual cycle, an absence that significantly hampers their education and prospects. It’s difficult for many of us to comprehend a reality where basic hygiene becomes a barrier to education, where dignity and the ability to learn are compromised every month.

Our solution is simple, yet impactful – reusable sanitary packs. For a low cost, these packs offer a sustainable solution to a pervasive problem, allowing girls to confidently continue with their education, unhindered by their menstrual cycle.

All it takes is US$24 per care pack (ZAR 400)
R400 buys a pack of 6 pads that lasts 4 years – that’s 1460 days of restored dignity and uninterrupted learning. An immense investment in a human life for such a small cost…

We extend an invitation to the compassionate change makers to support this initiative. Nelson Mandela once said, “What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.”

Your donation will not just supply a girl with sanitary care, but will ensure her education continues unabated, opening up opportunities for her future.

Let’s actively participate in creating a world where every girl has the opportunity to learn and grow without barriers. Let’s turn empathy into action, and change into progress.

This issue directly aligns with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: Good Health and Well-being, and indirectly with SDG 4:Quality Education, by ensuring that girls are given the means to attend school consistently.
